Uncle Bobby, I’ll never forget when you saw me playing on the Orogen stumbling on the keys, you said to me, I know you can do it nephew, just keep practicing, keep it up, you’ll get it. Those words gave me confidence and motivation. You introduced me to a jazz, blues, reggae and other genres. You saw me playing the keyboard since I was five years old and encouraged me every step of the way, you gave me books about music and taught me more about life. You were always there for me when I needed you. You were my superhero, my protector.
I’ll never forget the time I came from Queens to your house in Oakland and knocked on your door. You opened the door and said, Alvin, what are you doing here? You called my mom, your sis and said Lynn, do you know where Alvin is? He is here at my front door, and we all just laughed at that.
Your guidance, support and humor meant the world to me. I kept on playing the piano and it’s just great inspiration. I wish you were here to see me keep pushing forward, but I know you’d be proud. Your spirit will keep driving me forward. I love you always and will always keep you in my heart, my mind, my spirit and my soul love you always and forever Uncle Bobby, Alvin, Alvin alligator.
